Recently, one of my friends asked if I could make her some coat hook racks for a little nook in her house. Her current IKEA ones weren’t cutting it and everything kept falling off the pegs onto the floor and driving her crazy. (No disrespect IKEA, I still love you with a filthy passion!) She gave me measurements and the request for double hooks but other than that I could choose the design. I immediately knew that I wanted to add some metal label holders to dress them up a little.
I love metal label holders. They have such a classy, vintage look about them. They’re easy to attach too (gotta love an easy DIY!).
I’ve used metal label holders before on our linen cupboard and swore I would use them EVERYWHERE from then on (and then promptly forgot).
This is our linen cupboard. It was an old wardrobe that I repurposed to include a stack of plywood storage boxes. We manage to shove a family of five’s spare bedding, towels, picnic rugs, space bags, extra blankets and countless other crap into this one cupboard, as well as my fabric stash (for the two days a year I pretend I can sew). When I made the plywood boxes I dressed them up with metal label holders and I’ve always looooved that little touch (it’s the little things). You can also see that the kids have pulled the labels out of the bottom two holders (because children give zero shits about my meticulously executed decor choices).
Gah! I just love them.
They’re so versatile. I’ve rounded up some great examples (below) of where these metal label holders can be used.
Katie (from Little House of Four) transformed this filing cabinet to look like a wooden specimen cabinet. I love the alphabet labels – such a lovely little touch.
Jen (from I Heart Organizing) added metal label holders to the baskets in her pantry – genius!
Pink Pig makes these rustic key holders from recycled timber. The metal label holders add that extra bit of class. By the way, how lovely are those metal key tags – they certainly beat my fluro plastic ones.
Corey (from Sawdust 2 Stitches) transformed IKEA cubbies into this masterpiece of an apothecary cabinet. I’m in awe of her mad skills. The little pops of white inside the metal label holders really lighten such a dark, heavy piece of furniture.
Julie (from Julie Blanner) added metal label holders to her linen cupboard shelves. Don’t those shelves look so fancy now? By the way, my linen cupboard looks nothing like this minimalist gorgeousness.
I’ve just ordered another batch of metal label holders to add to the coat hooks I’m making for the markets. It’s the little details that make all the difference.
