The Third Bedroom is coming along nicely (and slowly!). One of the projects I had in mind for this room was a long desk area with shelves above. The reason I’ve had this in mind is because when I built our Media Wall for the Family Room, I was left with some 2m long offcuts of pine butcher block and everyone knows I hoard wood like it’s the only thing that will help me through an apocalypse.
I sanded, stained and waxed each of the boards. I was working in full sun so the stain dried a bit blotchy. I can blame my impatience for that one. I should have used wood conditioner first but I didn’t have any on hand.
I located the studs in the wall and then installed the brackets. Drilling into 50 year old jarrah studs was no picnic. Getting the shelves level was a pain too but I got there in the end. High fives!
As this used to be the junk room, we ALWAYS kept the door closed. But now that it’s becoming the Third Bedroom it’s lovely to catch glimpses of the room as I walk past.
I’ve still got a list of things to do in the Third Bedroom before it’s finished:
- Finish painting the drawers
- Hang a mirror and picture frames
- Fix the desk chair
- Do something with the blanket box (it’s currently pine but I don’t know whether to stain it or paint it). And maybe I should make a big cushion for the top of it? I don’t know.
Those are the main things that I can think of. Then I can fill the room up with all of #1’s stuff – badges, rock collection, lego masterpieces, precious school artwork … you know, just the hundreds of keepsakes that kids love to hold on to. I’ve promised him his new room will be finished by the end of November so I’ve got a busy couple of weeks ahead of me! And then it will be December and I’ll be doing ALL THE CHRISTMAS THINGS. But I’ll definitely share the Third Bedroom reveal as soon as it’s finished. Speaking of reveals, our Media Wall is finished and filled up but we’re waiting for the Christmas sales to get a TV for it. Once the TV is up I’ll show you all how the whole wall looks 🙂
