I’m in the process of filling up all the shelves in our new Media Wall. I don’t mean filling the shelves with pretty vignettes. I mean filling the shelves with real-life things such as the past 7 years tax receipts, a thousand old photos I never got around to putting in albums, spare cords and chargers that I can’t remember what they’re for but am too scared to throw out, family medical records … you know, grown-up people stuff.
My solution is to HIDE all the stuff.
I’m a huge advocate of using what you’ve already got so I scoured the house and came up with a few large baskets (I didn’t have empty baskets just lying around, they were full of stuff that i dumped in a pile.) To my eyes, baskets are loveliest when they’re a dark colour. These were a light orangy colour. I couldn’t use them as is on my beautiful new Media Wall – I’m not an animal!
(Offensive ginger baskets.)
I wondered, can you stain baskets? It turns out you can. I followed Kelly’s hilarious tutorial over at View Along The Way. It’s really simple. You just brush the stain on and instead of wiping it off after a few minutes, you leave it on to dry for a few days.
Would you look at these gorgeous baskets?!
